(Dashboard week day 1)
First day of dashboard week we were set the following challenge:
Redesigning a dashboard that was highly numerical focused to make is dyscalculia or dyspraxia friendly.
WHAT IS DYSCALCULIA?
Dyscalculia is a learning difficulty that affects an individual’s ability to do basic arithmetic such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Adults with dyscalculia often take longer when working with numbers and may be more prone to making mistakes in calculations. Estimation skills can also be affected.
CHANGES WE MADE
· Big fonts with an explanation of chart numbers
· Reduce number of labels
· Description of chart as a comment under the charts
· Double encoding: Using both lines and dots on the same chart trend
· Avoid overload : Clearing up the dashboard by breaking it into sections with filters and including a lot more white space
· Tooltips: Cleaning the tooltips to contain only necessary numbers
· Include an indication that filters are to be used
· Consistently use colors: The colors used represented the same thing through out the dashboard
· Turn BANs into charts: We substituted a section with 7 KPIs into three charts (Bar chart and pie chart)
· Used dynamic zone visibility
