Day 4 of dashboard week: A scatter of scatters

by Etienne Soubes-Goldman

Today we were tasked with visulising the data provided by Guy’s and St Thomas’ Charity as part of ‘Viz For Social Good’.

It’s exploring these kinds of data sets which are the reason I wanted to start a career in data analytics. I really enjoyed it.

For the data prep side of things, today was very simple. All I had to do was join the main data set containing obesity data and socio-economic data to a shape file.

I also used Alteryx’s association tool to explore all the possible correlations between different measures. This was super a great way for me to start putting together a story in my head.

Once I’d found trends and relationships I wanted to explore further I put the data into tableau and began to explore further.

The dashboard I ended up building in the time we had is unfinished and definitely misses many of the requirements, but I’m still really pleased with it.

If I’d had more time I would have worked more towards fulfilling those requirements and also telling the rest of the story I wanted to tell.
