Tableau, TIL (and Alteryx)

Within the data community are the Tableau and Alteryx Community. Let’s dive in one by one:

Tableau Community #DataFam

As you get started with your tableau journey, you might be tipping your toes into Tableau Public first. Tableau Public is a platform where the community shares their interesting dashboards for others to see. Anyone can use Tableau Public, which is similar to a free version of the official Tableau products such as Tableau Desktop. Any visualization that you share here is open to the public (and of course you can hide certain dashboards that you do not want others to see). You never know if your visualizations might become the Viz of the Day!

Now you are asking yourself, how can you be more involved? Let me first say, welcome to the #DataFam! This is the official tag for people using tableau in the community. As you ask questions in forums, comment on posts, or share your dashboards, you can tag the #DataFam and bring attention from the community to see your posts. If you want to be slightly more involved with a physical presence, the Tableau User Groups (TUG) is a great place to start meeting Tableau users. For example, Collin Smith from TIL hosts the Accessibility TUG!

You can also become a Tableau Community leader such as Tableau Visionaries and Tableau Ambassadors! In TIL, Jack Perry among many others is a 3X Tableau Ambassador!

Next, if you would like to challenge your Tableau skills, there are community challenges available. For example, the Iron Viz is an event hosted annually by Tableau with big awards, Makeover Monday, Workout Wednesday, and Preppin Data are all fun places to explore.

There are also Tableau Conferences that occur (for 2024, it is April 29-May 1 at San Diego, CA).

Alteryx Community #Maveryx

Alteryx is a data prep tool that is extremely useful for cleaning, analyzing and outputting data with a community quite similar to Tableau. Alteryx also holds community challenges such as the Grand Prix where competitors solve Alteryx challenges on stage and the slowest individuals get eliminated. Alteryx weekly challenges are also some fun exercises to work on if you want to practice your data prepping skills!

If you want to be more engaged in Alteryx, you can also attend the Alteryx Inspire (a conference that is happening this year on May 13-16, 2024, at The Venetian in Las Vegas, NV) or you can become the next Alteryx ACEs! TIL also has many Alteryx ACEs as well!
